Photo Story: The Chai Cart

Hello! Welcome to my second photo story. This story is about Sam from The Chai Cart, a street cart located on the Victoria Bridge in South bank. On the day of the shoot, I got to learn about coffee making and the how The Chai Cart grew over the years. A big thank you to Sam for the collaborating on the project!

The Barista: Sam Blackburn, the barista and owner of The Chai Cart located on the Victoria Bridge in Southbank.

The Beginning: Sam started The Chai Cart after graduating from QUT with a degree in Industrial Design. Sam wanted to use his design skills in his own small business and decided that he would do a street cart style business. The goal of the business was to keep things simple while delivering a unique experience for his customers. He decided to bring authentic chai, brewed with real spices to the CBD.

The Cart: Sam designed and built his first cart in December 2012 and launched the business in January 2013. During the first few years, Sam participated in markets, events and a pop up shop. He finally purchased the current cart at Victoria Bridge in South Bank where he also offers coffee. Before purchasing the cart at Victoria Bridge, Sam steered clear of coffee due to the size of the commitment it entails, however he was happy when he took the plunge, as coffee is another love of his.

A quote from Sam: “I've been serving locals and tourists alike in this location since April last year. While it has ups, downs, rain and shine, I still get satisfaction from every chai and coffee I serve. I make the best product I can and knowing I've made the experience special is what really matters to me. “
